You ("Technician") are an independent contractor of SunStar America LLC d/b/a Blue Grid IT ("Company"). Nothing in these Terms creates an employment, agency, partnership, or joint-venture relationship. You control the manner and means of performing services, may accept or decline any job offer without penalty, may work for other companies including competitors, and supply your own tools, vehicle, and phone.
Jobs are broadcast as offers through the Blue Grid Tech app to technicians opted into the relevant service category. Acceptance is first-come. Once accepted, you agree to complete the job at the scheduled time or promptly release it so it can be reassigned. Repeated acceptance-then-abandonment may result in deactivation.
For each completed job you receive 60% of the total job price (base services plus signed on-site additions), plus 100% of customer tips. The Company retains 40% as its platform, marketing, booking, payment-processing, and support fee. A platform fee is deducted from your job share on each completed job at the rate shown in the app; it funds the operation of the platform and is not insurance (see Section 6). Payouts are made within 7 days of job completion via automated bank transfer (Stripe). A one-time registration fee of $25 (partially covering background check, driving record, and identity verification costs) is deducted from your first payout(s), and is disclosed during onboarding. You are responsible for all taxes; the Company will collect an IRS Form W-9 and issue Form 1099-NEC where required by law.
You agree to: perform services in a professional, workmanlike manner; complete the in-app security checklist, before/after photos, and job notes for every job; obtain the customer's signature before charging; never solicit Blue Grid IT customers for off-platform work for 12 months after your last job for that customer (a reasonable, limited non-solicitation — not a non-compete); and comply with all applicable laws.
You are solely responsible for obtaining and maintaining every license, registration, permit, and certification that federal, state, county, or municipal law requires for the work you accept. Requirements vary by jurisdiction and by the type of work. For example, installing security cameras or alarm equipment requires registration with the Department of Criminal Justice Services in Virginia, and may require a security systems technician license in Maryland or the District of Columbia; some counties require a low-voltage permit for wiring work.
Blue Grid IT does not hold licenses on your behalf and does not verify that you hold the licenses required for the work you accept. Category-specific notes shown in the app are general pointers only, are not legal advice, and are not a determination that you are or are not required to be licensed.
By accepting a job, you represent that you hold every license and permit required to perform that job lawfully in the jurisdiction where it takes place. You will provide copies of your licenses on request, and you may upload them in the app. You will decline work you are not licensed to perform.
You are responsible for any fine, penalty, or claim arising from performing work without a required license, and you agree to indemnify Blue Grid IT and SunStar America LLC against any such fine, penalty, or claim.
Before performing any job, and at your own expense, you must obtain and keep in force commercial general liability insurance of at least $1,000,000 per occurrence / $2,000,000 aggregate, along with any other insurance required in the jurisdictions where you work or by any agency that licenses the services you perform. The policy must have a term of one month or longer — per-job or short-term coverage is not accepted — and must name SunStar America LLC d/b/a Blue Grid IT as additional insured.
You upload your Certificate of Insurance in the app with its expiration date. If your coverage lapses, expires, or is cancelled, job offers pause until you upload a current certificate. You must tell the Company promptly if your policy is cancelled or materially changed before its expiration date. Full details are in the Insurance Requirement document.
Engagement is contingent on a satisfactory background check and motor vehicle record, per the standalone Background Check Disclosure and Authorization.
Your account has one of three statuses, always visible to you in the app: Pending (onboarding submitted; background check, identity verification, and review in progress — no access to job offers), Active, or Terminated.
Either party may end this relationship at any time. In addition, the Company may terminate your account for any of the following, each documented in the platform:
Termination is final: terminated technicians may not re-apply or create a new account. Payouts earned on jobs completed before termination will still be paid. Your current status, rating, and standing against these thresholds are shown in the app at all times.
You are responsible for the safe and proper installation of everything you install, and you are liable for repairs or replacement needed because of faulty installation by you. That responsibility includes inspecting materials before use and installing only materials with no visible defect, telling the Company promptly about any defective equipment, leaving all manufacturer warning tags, labels, and instructions in place, and showing the customer how to use and maintain what you installed.
Neither the Company nor any retail or brand partner is responsible for damage or claims involving products you altered, misused, or handled improperly.
You will not change the scope of a job or perform extra, additional, or unspecified work without approval through the app. On-site additions must be added as a change order and approved by the customer's signature before any charge.
You agree to look only to the Company for payment for work you perform. You waive and disclaim any right to record or claim a mechanic's lien, construction lien, or similar claim against a customer's property for work performed or materials supplied through the platform. At your own expense, you will defend and indemnify the Company and its customers against any such lien or claim, and against related costs and attorneys' fees, arising from your acts or omissions.
Job offers are made to you based on your verified identity, background check, and skills qualifications. You may not subcontract, assign, or delegate a job to anyone else, and no one other than you may perform a job you accepted or enter a customer's home on your behalf. If you cannot perform a job, release it in the app so it can be reassigned.
While performing a job you must carry valid government-issued photo identification and your Blue Grid IT digital badge, which is available in the app. Customers may ask to see either.
Customer information you receive through the platform — names, addresses, phone numbers, access codes, alarm codes, network passwords, and anything else about a customer's home or systems — is confidential. Use it only to perform the job it relates to. Do not copy it, keep it after the job, share it, or use it for any other purpose, including your own marketing. Access codes and passwords must never be retained after a job is complete.
This obligation continues after these Terms end. It does not apply to information that was already public through no fault of yours.
Calls and text messages between you and customers are connected through a Blue Grid IT phone number so that neither party's personal number is exposed. You consent to the Company logging the date, time, participants, and content of those communications, which we use to resolve disputes and to confirm contact attempts before a missed appointment. Customers are given the same notice. Contacting customers outside the Blue Grid line for platform work defeats this protection and is a breach of these Terms.
These Terms are governed by Maryland law. Disputes will first be attempted to be resolved informally. If arbitration is desired, consult counsel about an appropriate clause. If any provision is unenforceable, the remainder stands.
